What is permanent makeup?

Permanent make-up is a technique in which pigment is applied just under the epidermis with a wafer-thin needle.

It is THE way to always have your eyebrows perfectly in order.

No more touch-ups with a pencil, perfect in all circumstances, wherever you are, whatever you are doing.

Unlike tattoos, which remain visible for a lifetime, permanent make-up gradually becomes lighter.

On average, the pigmentation remains beautiful for 1 to 1.5 years.

After that, the pigmentation gradually fades, which is why we always recommend to schedule an annual touch-up to refresh the pigmentation.

The pigmentation is performed with a special permanent make-up pen.

A needle snaps onto this pen that penetrates the skin at a rate of more than 100 times per minute.

Difference Between Permanent Makeup and Tattoo

Permanent makeup and tattooing have a lot in common. In both techniques, a dye is applied into the skin using a needle.

But there are also differences. With a tattoo, the pigment is applied deeper into the skin than with permanent make-up. With permanent makeup, the pigment is located in the top layer of the dermis just below the epidermis. Tattoos are usually much deeper. A well-placed tattoo is, as a rule, applied in the subcutaneous area. The dye is located between the fat cells of the skin. Because a tattoo is inserted deeper, a tattoo remains visible longer after a treatment than permanent make-up.

The pigment should not be set too deep, otherwise the pigment will mix with the entire fatty tissue and we perceive this as green discoloration. Permanent makeup also uses other dyes with different grain sizes. Tattoo ink has a much finer structure than pigment for permanent make-up.

One of the reasons permanent makeup fades is because our bodies break down iron oxides. Tattoo dyes are usually made from carbon or organic dyes. Most of these dyes cannot be broken down by your body and therefore remain visible. A tattoo is a piece of jewelry, and may or must be seen. Permanent make-up is intended to enhance the natural contours and is often most beautiful when it is inconspicuous.

Technology

The times of dark, unnatural eyebrows are no longer of this time.

During a PMU treatment we look for the right shape and color for your eyebrows, depending on the shape of your face and your own hair and skin color.

Pigmentation

The color and intensity of your pigmentation will be discussed during the intake interview.

Based on the color card, we determine together how intense, warm or cold you want the color.

We use pigments from Labina X DMT, which are REACH compliant.*

The achieved result of the pigmentation depends on various personal factors and on the shade and shade intensity chosen.

When the color tone fades at an individual rate, it is not a sign of improper handling or pigmentation.

Color results may be lighter or darker than expected due to individual factors such as skin type, natural pigmentation/tanning, etc. But we discuss this aspect together during the intake interview.

That is why it is important to initially lightly and gently pigment, wait for the healing process, and then apply the desired pigmentation correctly during the touch-up treatment if necessary.

* REACH compliant: is an EU regulation that has been in force since 2007 and is in force in all member states, in contrast to directives that must first be transposed into national law. REACH is about the 'Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals'.

It concerns an extensive system of classification of chemicals in all kinds of areas.

Since 04-01-2021, REACH also applies to all permanent make-up shades used within the European Union.

From 04-01-2022, pigment shades must be produced, marked and labeled in accordance with REACH rules.

It's not that eyebrows have to look unnatural after a PMU treatment.

At THE BROW CLINIC we help you to perfect your eyebrows the way you see perfection. Your eyebrows tailored to you!
